Over the years we've talked to a LOT of artists and makers about our town, the businesses they would like grow, the spaces they'd like to use and, most importantly, the challenges that make the High Street a no-go area for artisans & artists.
It fired imaginations and we enjoyed many boozy debates about the future of Maidenhead High Street in the context of all the new development plans that are springing up around it, but not in it. So we took everyones ideas and came up with the proposal of a centrally located 'Hub' that would have three distinct purposes - business development, arts intervention and public perception. We also defined some very practical ways that our local authority could support such a programme.
Last night, we took this proposal, entitled 'Destination Maidenhead' and presented it to the Maidenhead Town Forum (which was TERRIFYING, incidentally). It was really well-received and plans are already afoot to take our proposals further. Take a look and let us know what you think! Exciting times!
