“I am predominantly a figurative painter. I use the process of photography and drawing to inform my paintings and I am influenced massively by art history; anything classical e.g. Baroque, Pre Raphaelites, also more modern artists like Edward Hopper. I think of my work as a journey of complex ideas, such as issues of immortality, memories, or a rejuvenation of something that has past transposed into something new. Within my ideas I try to create imaginative dream like scenarios, communicated in subtle colours evoking calm and tranquillity.
My research includes ethereal subjects such as angels, the pose and grace of dancers, portraiture, beautiful sculptured stone work and buildings that speak volumes like the Taj mahal, St Peters Basilica, Chateaus in France and their contents of opulent artefacts. All seem magical to me in a whirlpool of romantic idealism.”
