Sum up your work in a sentence:
Rather do a portrait than a landscape
When and how did you become an artist?
I have always sketched with pencils but started painting 8 years ago when I took early retirement. I joined Cookham Arts Club at that time and the lovely people in the club encouraged me to continue. I started painting in watercolour then orogressed to acrylic, pastels and now oils. I still paint in all mediums depending on the subject.
Who or what are your inspirations and why?
John Singer Sargent is my most favourite portrait artist. He captures the personality with just a few appropriate brushstrokes. There is a wonderful luminosity about his paintings. My other inspiration is Jamel Akib, a wonderful artist who has inspired me and has taught me how to paint more loosely.
If you could go for a drink with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Grayson Perry. An inspiration to us all I feel. He is an incredibly intelligent man...once you're past the daft outrageous outfits he wears. His research looks into every nook and cranny to get the best representation of his subject, An amazing man.
