Soul inspired art led by energy, defined by texture and embellished with mystery.
When and how did you become an artist?
I was born in Malaysia and aspired to be a fashion designer, having sold my designs to my friend's aunt who ran a boutique. But after secondary school, my father refused to allow me to attend fashion school so I had a week to choose something art related so I picked graphic design. But this was the days before it was computerised so my foundation was in fine art and photography. My work back then was mostly airbrushing, mixed media and oil pastels. I also did a lot of black and white photography as well. Art took a step back for journalism and Non-Govermental Organisation's and finally corporate marketing and events. I only started painting professionally last year and my biggest achievement so far was to enter the Artstyle magazine's competition to be on their Spring front cover. I was absolutely thrilled that my entry, the "Petulant Peacock" won with 322 likes/loves, 65 shares and 16,998 views!
I am a full time Psychic Medium, run workshops on spiritual development, manifesting, visionboards and sell my artwork!
Who or what are your inspirations and why?
My spiritual work allows me to connect to the universe and get messages, thoughts and visions which I put on canvas. I get ideas and messages through my dreams or sometimes I just put a blank canvas on the table and pick up a brush to paint. I never really know how it will turn out and at times it is frustrating as if I was copying from a magazine or the Internet I have an idea of what to achieve. My work is a mix of abstracts, fantasy and explores different themes. The abstracts are bold, generous and really challenges the viewer to see past the obvious and study the lines, textures and shades. I see the abstracts as a talking point in someone's house. You will see something new each time you look at it. My mindfulness range is aimed at helping people who have trouble relaxing, to simply let their eyes follow the lines, contours and textures to a gentle and peaceful place. I also study the energy of the moon and how it affects us. I have a few that I am inspired to start just before a full moon. It is again very difficult to define but a delight to view.My art is a little like me - complex, genuine and positive!
If you could go for a drink with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I think the person I would have a drink with is Michael Jackson. I listened to his music when I was growing up, especially when I sat late at night finishing off my artwork for college. His music, videos and dress sense still inspires our generation. I would love to sit down with some hot chocolate (I don't think he drank) with extra whipped dream and chat about his music and my art. Maybe we could have made a music video together. He could be singing and dancing while I painted in the background. I can only dream!
