Sum up your work in a sentence:
Abstract, action, textured, tactile, deep edged canvas art that begs to be installed and touched.
When and how did you become an artist?
Facilitating the artistic development of students whist teaching had provided me with an outlet for my creativity, but not the time or space to actually produce my own work. Retirement from teaching, a year and a half, two published poetry books later and poetry workshops well under way, my abstract, canvas art has evolved, progressed and developed. I now have the time to pursue my own creative interest.
Who or what are your inspirations and why?
Inspiration for my paintings comes from everyday things around me; the weather - 'Falling Gold', the elements - 'Knotted Marble, the environment - 'Deep River', occasion - Wedding Blessings', life - 'The Beginning Of All Life'. It also comes out of my travels to; New Zealand -'Waterfall', South Africa and the Caribbean - 'In The Surf', the Alps - 'Whiteout'. If I had to name inspirational artistic styles, I'd have to name Jackson Pollock and Monet, just because of their freestyle, modern unfettered approach to art.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Here is just fine because it is home. That said, if it wasn't so far away and I could choose anywhere, it would be New Zealand. Why? Merely because it is beautiful and many parts of it is still 'pure'.
